So a little while ago, I was on YouTube when I saw a poem video come up out of the blue on the side--you know, where they have the suggested videos--called "Why Am I Not Good Enough." I am so glad I clicked on this video! 7th grader Olivia Vella wrote this slam poem as a school assignment, and it immediately went viral viewed by over 26 million people. The poem itself talks about the struggles that people of her and all ages face to fit in, or to be "good enough." She talks about the extent that people will go to just to achieve that goal. I feel like this poem is very relevant to my program because of the message. Why can't we just be happy with who we are and have that be all that matters? We need to know on the inside in our hearts that we are valYOUable and we don’t need other people to make that apparent because we already know. Whether it’s at school, work, or any aspect of your life, you must not change or try to mold just because we don’t want to look stupid being different even if that means that we are more successful in the short term, if that makes sense. Having the courage to be YOU, even if it's not thes same as everyone else, will make you more successful eventually because you will have the confidence to make tough decisions that may not be what everyone else would do. I encourage you to watch this poem and really think about the powerful words that this girl is speaking because they really do apply to everyone.
