There are lots of great tips in here for creating positive body image in teen girls! In case you don’t have time to read the whole thing (but you should because it’s really good) here is the list and some of my comments.

1. Sympathize - if you had something you felt insecure about as a teen share it with your kid so she knows she isn’t alone.

2. Model Body Comfort - Don’t say stuff like “oh I hate my arms” because that isn’t the message to send about how you should talk about your body.

3. Enlist Dad - My Dad always talks to me about eating healthy and being healthy but not to be skinny, and he gives me compliments about things other than just about how I look.

4. Avoid sexualizing - Gross.

5. Build resilience - learn to work with what you’ve got!

6. Move that body - My family joined a gym lately and I have to admit that seeing my mom and dad get up early or go to the gym when they are super tired after a long day of work has motivated me more than once to go even if I didn’t feel like it.

7. Set limits on clothing (or lack of it) - my mom calls this dressing “age appropriately”. She also won’t let me wear stuff with words on the butt usually. I really want some Pink shorts but so far no go.

Anyway, these are just some of my thoughts on the article. Check it out!
