Did you know that studies show that some teens spend five hours a week taking selfies?! No matter how long you take to take them, or how many tries it takes for you to get the perfect picture, remember that what's most important is that you are sharing the REAL you! As a national ambassador for Smart Girl Society, I love their message of authenticity in using social media! Social media plays such a huge part in how teens--really everyone--see themselves. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to look your best, but if you are letting it get in the way of letting the world see who you really are, that's not good. Don't let worrying about how you think you are supposed to look on social media make you feel worried about who YOU are! Here's a great article link that talks about social media and selfies! #smartgirlsociety #beYOUtiful

p.s. however I did see this thing the other day that is a fan that plugs into your phone so it blows your hair back when you are taking a selfie. it was pretty awesome I do have to say. ha ha

Social media use can turn into a problem when a teen's sense of self worth relies on peer approval, Proost says. Whether they're posting from the football game bleachers or on a family vacation, teens can access social media anywhere and at all times. And because of the constant connection, it can be dangerous for young people overly concerned with others' opinions. They may feel like they can never escape the social environment and are constantly faced with peer pressure.
