A few weeks ago Good Morning America had a story on Facebook that caught my eye! It was a picture of a pink glittery lunchbox that a mom had posted on Facebook. She said the lunchbox was hanging in the area with other things like gummy bears, and snacks, and other pink lunchboxes and things that looked like they were for kids. Well she did not like that at all and asked WHY would we be sending the message to young girls that if you eat something you want to eat it's bad or cheating? And WHY would we be encouraging a diet mentality in girls that young?

Well it turns out that the lunchbox was not supposed to be there and is part of a collection of lunchboxes that is supposed to be for grownups. Probably someone who worked at the store saw it being pink and sparkly and thought it should go in the front with snacks and things that were marketed for kids. But I still agree with that mom! What if that lunchbox had been supposed to be for young girls? And is it okay for them to be seeing grownups carrying around that message that says a food is bad?

I know what cheat day means because I try to eat healthy and on a lot of nutrition plans they will give you a "cheat meal" or something that is maybe not super healthy if you eat it all the time, like pizza, but is okay if you just have it once in a while. And if you are trying to lose weight or are training for something special it's not necessarily a bad thing to be on an eating plan. Maybe though instead of calling it a "cheat" meal or day we should use a more positive word for it, like "treat meal"? Just food for thought (ha ha get it? bad food joke).
